Why are there Christians and why is there a God?

Have you ever seen a dog reading a newspaper? Of course not. That isn't because newspapers are impossible to read. It's just that a dog can't understand it. In the same way, God is too big for human beings to fully understand Him. But God did make us so that we could know Him, love Him and worship Him. We don't know why there is a God, but we do know that God is there. We know that God is there because of everything He made. When you think of how wonderful the world is - from the huge stars in outer space down to the smallest creepy-crawlies. We know in our hearts that God made it all. We also know that God is there because in our hearts, we all feel bad inside when we do something wrong. That is because God made us to be a bit like Him, knowing right and wrong. Another reason why we know that God is there is because of the Bible. The very first words we read in the Bible are these - "In the beginning God made the heavens and the earth". But for Christians, the best way we know that God is there is because He sent His Son Jesus, to die for our sins on the Cross.

Now, you also ask about Christians. The only reason why there are Christians is because God sent His Son Jesus. The Bible says that we all sin by disobeying God - by breaking His rules. If He wanted, God could be angry with us for ever and ever. But because He loves us, He sent His only Son Jesus, to die on the Cross, so that He could take our punishment instead of us - if we ask Jesus to be our Lord and Saviour.

It is only because of His love that there are any Christians at all. And how wonderful to think that in heaven there will be so many people, we won't even be able to count them all. Just because of Jesus.
