What is the Bible?
Previous ] Contents ] Next ]

The word Bible refers to the writings of the Old and the New Testaments, as recognised and used by the Christian Churches. Judaism recognizes only the writings of the Old Testament. Other religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism and Islam, have their sacred writings. But there is only one Bible. The Bible is unique, and all other 'sacred' writings cannot be compared with it, because:

  1. It is the revelation of God.
  2. It is God-breathed ( see 2 Timothy 3v16 ), and inspired in a sense that it totally different from all other literature.
  3. It discloses God's plans and purposes for the ages of time and eternity.
  4. It centres upon God becoming man, in Jesus Christ, the unique and exclusive Saviour of the World.
