Is there a God? Prove it!
Previous ] Contents ] Next ]

The problem for the person who asks this question is that they have to disprove the notion of God, bearing in mind the weight of evidence all around them which indicates the contrary. Look out of your window and what do you see? Trees, plants, birds, dogs, cats, clouds, skies, sun, moon, people of all shapes and sizes. If you pick up the smallest flower you can see how complex the design is. Look at yourself and your loved ones. Real life human beings who can feel, smell, touch, love, cry. We have the ability to think intelligently (some of us at least) and to question the universe as no other creature on the planet can.

So where does this all come from? Certainly not from ‘nothing’. The first rule of science teaches us: ‘From nothing, nothing comes.’ So there must be what is known as a ‘first cause’. In other words there has to be a creative force out there, which has at least every characteristic of everything in the universe. For instance we are intelligent therefore there is something out there, which itself is intelligent. The same for the emotion of love and so on.

People do not reject because of lack of proof, they reject God because they want to live life their way. Deep down we know there is a supreme Creator but as the Bible tells us:

For although they (the human race) knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools…since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God.’ (Romans 1:21, 22, 28a)
